We the undersigned, citizens of the state of Minnesota, petition Senator Amy Klobuchar to support ending the occupation of Afghanistan. In your interactions in the Senate and with the Obama Administration we believe all emphasis should be placed on resolving conflict through peaceful rather than military means. The United States thereby:
- Would immediately begin the process of withdrawing U.S. forces. (U.S. security, at home and abroad, has not improved since we drove al Qaeda out of Afghanistan. Adding 30,000 troops will result in death or severe physical/psychological injury to thousands of U.S. soldiers and Afghani citizens.)
- Would support providing expanded diplomatic and NGO forces for needed humanitarian and developmental aid. UN Peacekeeping Forces should provide security until Afghan police/military are capable
- Would focus on the basic needs of U.S. citizenry and directly support national security by protecting vital infrastructure such as ports, railways, power plants and chemical facilities.
We strongly urge you to pursue nonviolent approaches and peace rather than expanding militaristic occupation.
